"...let's say we discover the gene that says the kid's gonna be gay. How many parents, if they knew before the kid was gonna be born, [that he] was gonna be gay, they would take the pregnancy to term? Well, you don't know but let's say half of them said, "Oh, no, I don't wanna do that to a kid." [Then the] gay community finds out about this. The gay community would do the fastest 180 and become pro-life faster than anybody you've ever seen. ... They'd be so against abortion if it was discovered that you could abort what you knew were gonna be gay babies."
OK, no big news there. But how does a mega-rich, gay rock star justify signing on to perform at Limbaugh's wedding?
Singer Elton John received a $1 million fee to perform in front of 400 guests celebrating radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh's fourth wedding Saturday night, People Magazine reports. (Link)
This reminds me of that famous Groucho Marx story. It ends with "We've already established that. Now we're just quibbling about the price."
As it's Memorial Day, it's appropriate to honor not only those that made the ultimate sacrifice, but also those who they left, family and friends forced to endure their own pain and loneliness.
It's always seemed to me that this song, by the late, great Steve Goodman, manages to pay honor to that unbounded sorrow.
Last night were the last performances of the American Idol finalists. The two, Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze, sang three songs each and were, as expected, very good. I've been rooting all season for Bowersox - she seems to me the most authentic and the contestant with the highest probability of actually turning into someone who can sell records and fill up concert venues.
Bowersox's last performance was "Up To The Mountain" and, as good as it was (and it really was very good) it's hard to beat the songwriter's beautiful version.
